Photos: Jake De & Aleks B. | Words: Nathan Kumar cha·ris·ma Noun: Compelling attractiveness or charm that can inspire devotion in others. A divinely conferred power or talent Now that you’re on par with the term and the dictionary definition lets delve deeper, how does one define charisma or appear to be charismatic? Charisma in the car scene is usually defined through the way the owner presents his car to the rest of the scene. With the stance movement swooping in fast and hard, many people opt to play it safe and go for vehicles that they know will be widely accepted by the majority. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but every once and again we get to see a glimpse of someone who dares to think outside the box and break the set moulds that the culture follows. Here we have here two friends who walk the same path in life both as students studying and both with a passion for cars. Both drive Honda’s but that’s as far as the similarities list goes. First up we have Areis with black FD2 Honda Civic, who has taken the “less is more” approach at modifying his car, the late model Civic keeps in contact with the tarmac with its work XD9’s running 17×8.5 up front and 17×9.5 with the aid of 20mm spacers to fill out the rear guards. +32 offset for the front and +18 for the rear ensures there’s enough poke to fill out the Civics sleek guards. An “air force air suspension” kit plays the role on this Honda as gravity does on all else, making sure it’s constantly at an ideal height for the given situation or simply just slammed, just how we like it! Visual mods were kept to a minimum as if though not to ruin the original lines of the car that Honda engineers had worked on to get right. A Mugen lip kit and a duck tail spoiler just to ensure this isn’t mistaken for “mum’s grocery go getter” gets the job done and ensuring his ride is subtle yet stands out for all the right reasons. Next up, we have Luke with his pearl white S2000, who has seem to opt for a some-what more in your face approach to his build. The S2000 sits incredibly low thanks to a set of BC Racing coilovers, allowing the 17×9 inch Rays TE37s to do their job and fill up those guards, running +22 offset all round the car has enough poke to make you choke! The pearl white hue contrasts amazingly with the full cream re-trimmed leather interior on the inside of Luke’s S2000. Every S2000 has a boy-racer stigma attached to it and it wouldn’t be right to allow the little Honda to live up its huge potential, taking care of this is a K&N air filter to allow the F20C between its struts do what its known to do, breathe! and loudly when the VTEC pops, to say the least ! Dual titanium exhaust expel the exhaust gasses from behind and look like absolute porn, all whilst delivering a very nice exhaust note. So here we have it two friends, two Honda’s, two very different approaches that work well when played out resulting in two charismatic cars rolling around the streets of Sydney. Diversify people!

Photos: Aleks Brajic | Words: Aleks Brajic As each year passes, I am seeing more and more mind blowing cars being built. Boundaries are being pushed, new limits being set but there is often one particular build that sets itself apart from many others. One that extends beyond those boundaries and pushing those limits, to the point in which the car is in its own category and becomes a work of art and for Troy Miles FUUARK Nissan Silvia S14 is just that. Currently going through a full rebuild, Troy invited me over to take some progress shots. Inspiration, the process of being mentally stimulated to do or feel something, especially to do something creative. In the world of cars this has a lot of meaning; it’s the common bond we as enthusiasts have that keeps us building our pride and joy. In this case Troy’s major inspiration is his late father who had a passion for building tough street/show rides. Owning a blown 600hp Bedford van, shaved panels with the block sitting inside next to him whilst driving almost acting like an armrest, you can see where Troy gets his insane ideas from. One thing that Troy learnt from his best friend was ‘ Do it once, do it properly’. Over time owning the car, it has encountered problems, like all cars. It has spun bearings in two motors so he listened to his dad and the decision was made to go all out and do it right. A variety of parts from very prospective parts dealers have been ordered including Nitto, ARP and BC. As Troy states ‘the thing that wins the girls is the aesthetics’ so the whole engine bay has been shaved and stitched. The colour scheme of purple and white will stay but more importantly Rex Kelway was called and tubs were fabricated. With such detail in the engine bay, naturally the cars exterior would have to be just as detailed and stand out. He already had the perfect starting point wheels wise, owning a set of Work Meisters S1 but the sizing 18×8 +33 wasn’t aggressive enough so they’ve been resized to 18×9 +8 (fronts) and 18×11.5 +5 (rear) staying with the cars theme they were painted purple. A S14 JDM rear bar was added to give the rear a simple touch of class. From what you have seen Troy’s build is definitely something to look out for when it’s done. Troy predicts it will be done within a month or so. Stay tuned!
